Outback

This air tour will take you back to the Australian age of dinosaurs and then on through the days and courage of those that pioneered inland Australia, conquering the outback, establishing pastoral and mining industries and creating essential services such as The Royal Flying Doctors and Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Service (now QANTAS) that have transformed vast areas once inhospitable into the vibrant industries and lifestyle of today.

Day 1.

Our flight from Cairns takes us inland over the valley of lagoons and towns of Greenvale and Hughenden to Winton in the center of Queensland.

Here our tour takes you through the Waltzing Matilda Center famous for its audio-visual billabong courtyard, then the heritage listed CorField and Fitzmaurice Building where "Elliot" whose fossilised bones created worldwide interest when discovered near Winton.

Elliot is thought to be the largest dinosaur, up to 22 meters long, to have lived in Australia. A visit to the Wookatoo gift and gem center with its opal walk, before we fly on to Longreach to enjoy a night under the starry sky of outback Australia.

Day 2.

The essence of the Australian pioneers spirit will fascinate you as we visit the Stockman's Hall of Fame which celebrates the men and women that persevered through the hardship of remoteness, floods and drought to settle this vast country.

You will be amazed to see a QANTAS Boeing 747 Jumbo Jet as a major feature of the state of the art QANTAS Founders Museum next to their original hanger.

We have lots of time to take all this in before our return to Cairns flying over Hughenden and lnnisfail cane field as we go. What to bring: two days casual gear, hat, light travel bag, personal needs and camera.
