We are met by our guide at the airport and taken on a conducted tour of the fascinating lava tubes.
These tubes were formed 190,000 years ago when the outer surface of molten lava solidified leaving these unusual tunnel-like formations the lava tubes are set high in the savannah with its wide variety of bush life, lakes, craters and vast cattle properties.
For lunch, we return to Lava Lodge and its historical railway carriages.
After lunch, we fly over the upper reaches of the Tully River, Innisfail and the canefields on the return to Cairns. Bring walking shoes, a sun hat and a camera.
